Ladies Evening 2012

A record breaking crowd of more than 3,000 race goers enjoyed a fine summers evening at Wolverhampton Racecourse for the highlight of their racing calendar, Ladies Evening 2012 on September 8th. Quality racing and live entertainment ensured the event, now in its 7th year, lived up to its usual high standard!

The evening itself, sponsored by Mecca Bingo, Guest Motors and Clean Event was the perfect opportunity for Ladies and Gents to dress up for the evening, with prizes on offer for Best Dressed Lady, Best Hat and Best Shoes. 30 Ladies were selected during the evening by the team of fashion fillies and the finals of the 3 competitions were judged by a panel of fashion Judges, Wolverhampton Celebrity Hairdressers Royston Blythe and Nick Malenko the Fashion Show Company’s Sally Mansell and Promise Dreams patron Steve Bull. The Promise Dreams fundraising team were out in force on the night and raised over £1000 for the charity.

The hotly contested Best Dressed Lady award had 10 finalists for the judges to choose from. With prizes totalling over £1000 from Guest Motors - Alfa Romeo Wolverhampton, Royston Blythe, Hoar Cross Hall, Mecca Bingo, the Grand Theatre and Virgin Active Wolverhampton, the standard was exceptionally high. Winner by unanimous vote, for her great choice of colours and styling was Debbie Grogan who said “A massive thank you to all the team at Wolverhampton races for a fabulous evening. Horizons Restaurant was awesome as always and you even managed to arrange the gorgeous weather!”.

The evening was finished off by another rousing set from racecourse regulars Battle of The Divas, who belted out hits from Lady Gaga, Lulu and many more till the early hours.

Managing Director David Roberts said “The crowd for this year’s Ladies Evening were really revved up for a great night. The standard of the outfits in the competitions was very high and we are delighted that so many people entered into the Ladies Evening spirit. The culmination of hard work from our staff, the fine weather and an amazing crowd gave us a Ladies Evening to remember”.

Racecourse & Ladies Day FAQ's

What can we wear on the evening?
Ladies Evening is a great chance to wear your best suit or dress! We have prizes on the evening for Best Dressed Lady, Best Hat and new for 2012, Best Shoes. Diners in our Horizons and Ringside restaurants tend to dress up for the occasion. If you have Premier or Grandstand tickets, no ripped jeans or football shirts!

What time do gates open?
Gates open on the day at 4.00pm with the first race at 6.00pm. Traffic will be busy around Wolverhampton so make sure you get here nice and early for a pre-race drink and to study the racecard if you fancy a cheeky bet!

Do you have to bet?
Certainly not, only bet if you really want to. Horse racing is much more than gambling, just come along on the evening to soak up the atmosphere and have a great night with friends and family. If you would like to bet but don’t know how, just speak to one of the bookies, Ladbrokes or Tote staff.

What is this free drink for ladies who pre-book?
Every lady who pre-books before Ladies Evening will receive a free voucher to get a drink. The drink is a closely guarded secret, but we promise it to be fruity and delicious, and will be a great way to start off the evening!

We have a group of 10 coming to the racecourse, what deals do you have on?
A great value package to come racing is the Punters Package. The package is £15.00 per person for groups of 6 or more and offers a Grandstand Enclosure ticket, racecard, 3 drinks vouchers and a discounted ladbrokes betting voucher. We also have the Punters Package+ which includes all of the above and a £5.00 food voucher, all for £20.00. These tickets cannot be purchased on the day so pre-booking is essential!!!

Is Ladies Evening just for women?
Not at all, everyone is welcome! Ladies get the chance to dress up and have a dance to the live music after racing finishes, and gents get to watch the racing and hold the handbags!

What entertainment is on after racing finishes?
We have a live outdoor performance from fantastic band Battle of the Divas - they will be on stage straight after the last race. The performance will take place in the Grandstand Enclosure and is open to ALL racegoers. Horizons and Ringside Restaurant diners have access to a disco in the Ringside after the live band. Hospitality and Premier with Entertainment ticket holders will have access to a disco within the Premier enclosure after the live band.

What food is available on the day?
We have a great selection of eateries available on the day. The Weigh Inn bar is a lively bar with a great atmosphere situated between the Parade Ring and track. The bar menu offers a range of delicious food from Lasagne to Burger and Chips! The Paddock Grill is situated within the concourse on the ground floor, also offering a great range of foods. Situated in the Grandstand enclosure we also have a sausage roll and pasty stand, pork baps and baguettes and much more, so there is certainly no need to go hungry on the night!

Family Fun Day 2012

After months of planning, plenty of strops from Freddie Furlong, and frantic calls to Michael Fish about the weather, Family Fun Day 2012 went off without a hitch.

We had a slight down pour in the morning and staff were busy working hard to make sure the racecourse was ready come rain or shine! The picnic area was in tip top shape for happy racegoers.

We must say a big thank you to all the stalls who turned up on the day, who helped make the event so special. So thanks to WOW Stuff for bringing along their Attacknid, Promise Dreams who raised a massive £539.32 on the day, Dudley Zoo who bought along a very artistic face painter and also a snake, cockroaches, guinea pigs and a ferret called Smoky, Core Children’s Services working in partnership with Birmingham City Council, The Merry Hill Centre and Virgin Active!

We have had so much good feedback so far from happy parents and kids, which makes the day even more worthwhile!

If you did enjoy the day, and want to come again, we have a packed racing schedule from September to December. Ladies Day on September 8th and Boxing Day racing are two of our biggest fixtures of the year!
