Macmillan Cancer Support Morning

After receiving an invite from our local MP, Paul Uppal, we travelled to Wolverhampton Cricket Club to support the Macmillan Cancer Charity coffee morning! On this glorious day, this was the view from our window.

It was great to chat with Paul, and share his enthusiasm for fundraising! The tea and cakes went down a treat! Lets hope we managed to raise some money for such a worthy cause!

Competition winner beams with success

With the refurbished conferencing facilities at the racecourse only 3 months old, we thought it would be a great time to reward the winner of the Name Your Way to The Races Competition! Iain Dutton from Stourbridge was the lucky winner of a complimentary suite for himself and 9 friends for Saturdays race. Iain, who wrote in with the winning name “Sunbeam Suite” was absolutely delighted to have won.

The competition, held in June, asked for suggestions to rename the suites at the racecourse to coincide with the refurbishment.

David Roberts Managing Director said “We had a fantastic response to the competition, and it was a tough decision to find the winner. We felt that Sunbeam encompassed everything about Wolverhampton Racecourse, and we look forward to this name being with us for  many years to come”.

Opinion poll closed...

The opinion poll we posted on our blog page has now closed! The results are in...

We asked - What is your favourite activity at Wolverhampton Racecourse

Watching the racing - 40%
Having a flutter - 20%
Seeing Live bands - 40%
Dining in our restaurant - 0%

Its a split poll! As the racecourse has a variety of events throughout the year, we are not surprised that watching the racing and seeing live bands tied for first place. Its great that we are able to offer a varying range of entertainment and racing to fulfil most peoples needs.
We do get alot of people asking whether or not they have to bet when watching the racing - this is a definite no! If you don't fancy a bet, you certainly do not have to. If you are watching the races from the Grandstand, the betting is at the front, and is not intrusive at all. If you dine in any of restaurants, you are given the option of betting via the tote staff coming to your table, but dont feel pressured into doing so.

The thing that surprised us the most is seeing that dining in our restaurant gained a resounding nul points! We pride ourself on the dining experience we are able to offer in the Horizons restaurant and also the Ringside Carvery restaurant. To this end, we are currently running a special competition to win meal for yourself and 5 friends in our Horizons restaurant.

For your chance to win this fantastic prize, all you have to do is answer this simple question…

Over what distance will the Wolverhampton Racecourse Handicap stakes be run over on September the 30th at 19.45…

7f 32yards
154 furlongs
20,000 leagues
1 mile 11

For your chance to win, simply answer the question and send your details with an explanation of why you should be our online star of 2011 to competitions@wolverhampton-racecourse.co.uk

Best of luck!

Wolverhampton Racecourse Glams it up for Ladies Evening

Wolverhampton Racecourse celebrated their annual Ladies evening on Saturday night in fantastic style.

The event, part of the racecourses yearly fixtures, managed to entice almost 3000 people to enjoy a great evening of racing, dining and live entertainment. Even the onset of a brief shower couldn’t stop the revellers from enjoying the live music performed on a purpose built stage.

On the evening, prizes were awarded to the Best Dressed Lady, Best Dressed Couple, and for the Best Hat. To help entice so many people to make that extra special effort for the evening, the top prize for Best Dressed Lady was a full hair make over with celebrity hair stylist Royston Blythe, who was also present on the evening to judge the contest.

The names of all the winners from the evening have been posted on the racecourses Facebook page, along with fantastic photos from the night.

Managing Director David Roberts said “A great evening was had by all. Our early concerns about the weather were unfounded as it didn’t deter any of our guests from having a great time. We are in a great position to be able to offer a full range of entertainment at the racecourse, and we believe we have packages to suit all tastes and budgets”.

The event was a great end to the summer’s events at the racecourse, which also included a Family Fun Day in August. With the course itself being all weather and flood-lit, racing doesn't stop there. David went on to say “We are now gearing ourselves up for a packed Autumn and Winter racing and entertainment schedule, which will lead us into our festivities for the Christmas period. With a mixture of midweek fixtures and Saturday evenings with live bands to come, the racecourse will be as busy as ever!”
